Michael Hoffman

Michael has 30+ years’ experience in the power and renewables industries.  He is a former Partner at Riverstone Holdings where he was principally responsible for investments in power and renewable energy for Riverstone’s funds.  Riverstone is an energy and power-focused private equity firm with approximately $37 billion of equity capital raised across seven investment funds, including the world’s largest renewable energy fund.  Michael was co-head of Riverstone’s Renewable Energy Funds and led the teams responsible for all power investments in its six conventional energy funds, with total equity capital commitments of approximately $7 billion.  While at Riverstone, Michael was a member of the Board of Directors of Buckeye Partners, L.P., Enviva Partners, LP, Pattern Energy Group Inc. and Talen Energy Corporation, among others.

Prior to joining Riverstone in 2003, Michael was Senior Managing Director and Head of the Mergers & Acquisitions advisory business of The Blackstone Group for 15 years.  While at Blackstone, Michael was a member of the Private Equity Investment Committee and was a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.  Prior to Blackstone, Michael was Co-Head of Mergers & Acquisitions at Smith Barney & Co. 

Michael received a BA and an MA from Northwestern University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is a co-author of the book, “GREEN:  Your Place in the New Energy Revolution.”


Mark D. Segel

Mark has 26+ years’ experience in energy infrastructure project development, investment and finance.  Mark was formerly a Partner in the Private Equity Group of Ares Management LLC and Co-Head of Ares EIF (successor to Energy Investors Funds) where he analyzed, structured, and closed on the acquisition and disposition of energy project investments.  Mark chaired the Ares EIF Investment Committee, managed the Ares EIF Asset Management group and was the Portfolio Manager of Ares EIF’s United States Power Fund, L.P. and Project Finance Fund III, L.P.  Prior to Ares EIF, Mark was Vice President, Finance at ABB Energy Capital (formerly Energy Capital Partners) where he provided project financing for energy efficiency projects.  Prior to ABB Energy Capital, Mark was Manager of Finance at U.S. Generating Company (formerly J. Makowski Associates) where he structured, closed, and administered project financings for independent power projects.  Prior to U.S. Generating Company, Mark was a Loan Officer at The First National Bank of Boston.  Mark began his career as an Investment Banking Corporate Analyst at Shearson Lehman Hutton Inc. where he worked in the Mergers & Acquisitions and Corporate Finance departments and performed financial analysis, valuation, and advisory services.  Mark received an AB from Harvard College where he concentrated in Economics.


Avi Das

Avi has 10+ years’ experience in energy investment and finance. Prior to joining Stone Capital Partners, he ran an advisory firm, ACD Analytics, where he worked with investment funds and operating companies on investments, mergers & acquisitions and corporate finance.  Prior to ACD Analytics, Avi was an Associate at Riverstone where he worked extensively on renewable energy investments.  Prior to Riverstone, Avi was an Investment Banking Analyst at Goldman Sachs.  Avi received a BA from Amherst College and an MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business.
